
Established in 2015, the BRICS Network University
brings together higher education institutions from BRICS countries to promote joint research, academic mobility, and innovative educational programs in thematic areas of common interest.
About BRICS Network University
The BRICS Network University (BRICS-NU) is a collaborative educational and research initiative established by the Ministries of Education of Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa. Its purpose is to strengthen international cooperation in higher education, foster academic mobility, and promote joint research across areas of strategic importance for the BRICS countries.
The Network University was formally established during the II Meeting of the BRICS Education Ministers, held in Moscow on 18 November 2015, where the Ministers reaffirmed their commitment to advancing inclusive, high-quality education and contributing to sustainable development and global knowledge exchange.
In 2024 it was approved the accession of Egypt, Ethiopia, Iran and the United Arab Emirates as participating countries and in 2025 Indonesia was included, there was also an increase in the range of topics covered. BRICS-NU was originally structured around six focus areas:
