About the University
Ferdowsi University of Mashhad (FUM) is a public research university situated in Mashhad, the capital city of Iran’s Razavi Khorasan province in the northeast of the country. The university’s main campus—known as the Azadi or central campus—is located in an urban area and accommodates most of its faculties, libraries, and research centers. There are more than 18000 students, 840 faculty members, 1000 international students, 138000 alumnus, 435 academic major, and 64 educational department. Ferdowsi University of Mashhad (FUM) is a leading research university with broad academic expertise. Its main research focuses include agriculture, engineering, earth sciences, humanities, regional development, and energy technologies, supported by multiple Centers of Excellence and specialized institutes. FUM is one of the oldest and largest universities in northeastern Iran (founded 1949) and is generally counted among the country’s prominent research universities, attracting a significant number of international students from neighboring countries.
