About the University
The National Institute of Technology Warangal (NIT Warangal), established in 1959 as the Regional Engineering College, is the first of India’s 31 NITs and was inaugurated by Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru. Recognized as an Institute of National Importance, it is known for its dedicated faculty, advanced infrastructure, and vibrant academic environment. The institute continuously updates its curriculum to stay socially relevant and globally competitive, supported by international aid from UNESCO, the UK, and India’s TEQIP program.
NIT Warangal has 13 academic departments and several research centers spanning engineering, pure sciences, and management, with around 100 laboratories. It offers 10 undergraduate engineering programs, 29 postgraduate programs (including M.Tech, M.Sc, MCA, MBA), and diverse research opportunities.
The fully residential campus accommodates over 6,000 students and 1,000 doctoral scholars, featuring 16 hostels, mess facilities, a central library, auditorium, sports complexes, and a dispensary. Situated on a 248-acre campus near Warangal city, it is surrounded by historic landmarks, enhancing its cultural significance.
In the 2025 NIRF rankings, NIT Warangal was ranked 28th among engineering institutes and 63rd overall in India.
