About the University

Sichuan University is a high-level, research-oriented comprehensive institution directly under Ministry of Education, China and is classified as a Class A “Double First-Class” university. Located in Chengdu, Sichuan province, SCU comprises 4 campuses- Wangjiang, Huaxi, Jiang’an and Meishan - covering a total area of approximately 5.4 km².
The original Sichuan University dates back to 1896, when Sichuan Chinese-Western School, the first modern institution of higher-education in southwest China was founded. Then SCU was created through two rounds of mergers with Chengdu University of Science and Technology, and West China University of Medical Sciences.
Spanning 13 academic fields, the university is organized into 37 academic colleges (departments) and an Overseas Education College. In 2025, SCU ranks 219th in THE World University Rankings and 98th globally in the Academic Ranking of World Universities.
SCU continues to advance international exchange and cooperation, having established academic partnerships with 268 universities and research institutions across 45 countries and regions.
